Background:TheMHCclassIchain-related（MIC）proteinsarerelatedtotheMajorhistocompatibilitycomplex（MHC）classIproteinswhichareubiquitouslyexpressedandmediatetherecognitionofintracellularantigensbycytotoxicTcells.TheMHCclassIchain-related（MIC）proteinsarerecognizedbyNKG2D,areceptoronNKandTcells,andpromoteanti-tumoractivity.MICA,amemberoftheMICfamily,iswidelyexpressedonmanytumors,anditistheMICA/NKG2Dinteractionthatisthoughttostimulatetheanti-tumorreactivitybyTlymphocytes.MICAispresentinvirtuallyeverytissueexceptthenervoussystem,suggestingthatMICproteinexpressionmayonlybeonecomponentoftheanti-tumoractivityoftheimmunesystem.

Function:Seemstohavenoroleinantigenpresentation.Actsasastress-inducedself-antigenthatisrecognizedbygammadeltaT-cells.LigandfortheKLRK1/NKG2Dreceptor.BindingtoKLRK1leadstocelllysis.
