Aninvestigationwasconductedtoevaluatethecapacityofanelectronicmetaloxidesemiconductor(MOS)-typenose(e-nose)toclassifyporksampleswithdifferentstoragetimes(06d).Theeffectsoftheheadspace-generationtimeandporksamplemassontheresponseofthee-nosewerestudiedusingmultivariateanalysisofvarianceandonewayanalysisofvariance,respectively.Theresultsshowedthattheporksamplemasshadthemostsignificanteffectonthee-nosesensorresponse,followedbytheheadspacegenerationtime.Theoptimumparameterswere10gofsamplemasswith5minofheadspace-generationtimeina500mLvial.Aftereitherprincipalcomponentanalysisorlineardiscriminantanalysis,theresultsshowedthatthee-nosewiththeoptimumparameterscanaccuratelyclassifytheporksamplesstoredfor06d.Amethodusingabackpropagationneuralnetworkwasalsoperformed,and91.43%ofthepredictionset(with92.86%ofthetrainingset)wasclassifiedcorrectlyusingthismodel.
