Therecentlypublishedpointsofzerocharge(PZC)andisoelectricpoints(IEPs)ofvariousmaterialsarecompiledtoupdatethepreviouscompilation[M.Kosmulski,SurfaceChargingandPointsofZeroCharge,CRCPress,BocaRaton,FL,2009].Unlikeinpreviouscompilationsbythesameauthor[ChemicalPropertiesofMaterialSurfaces,Dekker,NewYork,2001;J.ColloidInterfaceSci.253(2002)77;J.ColloidInterfaceSci.275(2004)214;J.ColloidInterfaceSci.298(2006)730],thematerialsaresortednotonlybythechemicalformula,butalsobyspecificproduct,thatis,bybrandname(commerciallyavailablematerials),andbyrecipe(home-synthesizedmaterials).ThisnewapproachindicatedthattherelativelyconsistentPZC/IEPreportedintheliteratureformaterialshavingthesamechemicalformulaareduetobiasedchoiceofspecimenstobestudied.SpecimenswhichhavePZC/IEPclosetothe‘‘recommended”valueareselectedmoreoftenthanotherspecimens(PZC/IEPnotreportedbeforeorPZC/IEPreported,butdifferentfromthe‘‘recommended”value).Thus,thepreviouslypublishedPZC/IEPactasaself-fulfil领prophecy.
