Anarrayofthecolloidalphotoniccrystalswasdirectlyfabricatedusinganink-jetprinting.Thecolloidalinkdropletscontainingthemonodispersedpolystyrenelatexparticleswereselectivelydepositedonahydrophobicsurface.Solventevaporationfromeachinkdropletleadstoaformationofmicrodome-shapedcolloidalassemblesofclose-packedstructures.Microspectroscopicanalysishasconfirmedthattheindividualassemblyservesasaphotoniccrystalanditsopticalpropertiescanbecorrelatedwiththemicrostructuralfeatures.Unlikeothertechniquesofpatternedgrowthofcolloidalphotoniccrystal,thesubstratedoesnotneedtobepatternedfirstandnotemplateisneededinthedirectwritingbytheink-jetprinting.Usingourstrategy,wehaverapidlyproducedthecolloidalphotoniccrystalmicroarrayscomposedofdifferent-sizedspheresaddressablypatternedonthesamesubstrate.
