- Cornstarchofdifferentphysicalforms(solidandliquid)wasirradiatedwith60Cogammaraysandelectronbeaminthedoserangeof50Gyto100kGytoinvestigatetheeffectofionizingradiationonitsmolecularweight(Mw).Degradationwasobservedforbothsolidandliquidstatesuponradiation.However,degradationofthestarchintheliquidstatewasremarkablygreaterthanthatinthesolidstate.Thefreeradicalsthatformedduringwaterirradiationmustberesponsibleforsuchdegradationintheliquidform.Thermostatedviscometer,rheometerandmulti-anglestaticlaserlightscatteringwereemployedtostudythechangesintheMwofcornstarchthatoccurredduringirradiationatconstanttemperatureanddifferentconcentrations.ItwasobservedthatelectronbeamirradiatedcornstarchhasuniformdecreasinginMwandradiusofgyration(Rg)intherangeof(4.41072.9107gmol21)and(199.385.6nm),respectively.Theinfluenceofgasatmosphereonthedegradationprocessduringgammairradiationwasstudiedtofindthat,theMwandRgvalueswereintherangeof(4.41071.8107gmol21)and(199.3120.4nm)fortheoxygensaturatedsamples,while,theywere(4.41071.05107gmol21)and(199.385.6nm)fortheargonsaturatedsamples.[详细]
